FAQ

What makes your version of carrom different from the rest?

As people who play carrom every day, we wanted to add a few elements to the game that would make the play more enjoyable. Our version keeps the original rules and wooden surface material, but here’s what we added:

  • We shrunk the board size for beginner-friendly play and portability, compared to the bigger tournament-sized boards
  • We added a wrap-around coin holder to the frame, which is also made of recycled plastic
  • Our legs double as rounded pockets, which make it a lot easier to remove your coins compared to the original mesh pockets which also spill powder

I’ve seen this game spelled other ways… why choose “carrom”?

Carrom is a game dating back centuries and has been played in many different countries, so there are a ton of spelling variations (carrom, carum, caram, karam, karom, kayrum, कैरम, and we’re probably even missing some). We chose “carrom” because it’s the most common variation in India and throughout North America! Check out our blog post on the History of Carrom for more on this!

What’s the powder made of?

Our carrom powder is made of 100% potato starch.

How much powder should I use?

You only need a little bit! Before your first game, sprinkle a teaspoon or so onto the board, then glide your striker in circular motions around the board to spread the powder evenly. This first coat should last for around 20 games, but you can reapply as needed.

Do I have to play with powder?

Nope! You can if you want to (we do, and it helps your coins slide faster), but you can choose to use no powder if you prefer.

Where can I find Play Carrom in-stores?

We’re currently an online-only storefront. Stay tuned!
